About your Community Council...
Willington Worthenbury Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority. Its job is to represent and support the views and priorities of the people living within the communities of Sarn; Tallarn Green; Willington and Worthenbury.
The Community Council works to bridge the gap between Wrexham County Borough Council and people living in the Willington Worthenbury community to ensure their voices are heard. For example on local planning matters, highways and environmental issues. The Community Council also liaises with the Police and any other organisations whose work impacts on the lives of local residents.
The Community Council is made up of nine councillors - all of whom live within the community. They are elected or co-opted to serve a term of up to four years. Community Councillors also try to encourage local residents to play an active part in helping to improve their community.
Funding for the Community Council's activities comes directly from Wrexham County Borough Council. Typical examples of expenditure by the Community Council in any year include maintenance and repair of street lighting; grass cutting; maintaining children’s play areas; environmental improvements and the renewal of signage and dog waste bins. The Community Council can also award payments in the form of grants to local organisations and events.
Meetings of the Community Council take place bi-monthly on the second Monday of the month. The meetings are held alternately at Tallarn Green and Worthenbury village halls. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and can raise any issues or concerns they may have in the Open Forum which takes place before the start of each meeting.
